Handling and Processing of Inheritances

We advise on and manage the entire inheritance process, from obtaining the death certificate through to the award and distribution of the estate, making sure everything is done lawfully and efficiently.

Common situations

Typical cases

Situations we deal with regularly. Every family is different; the order of the steps is quite similar.

A relative has died and there is a home

The heirs need the home and the rest of the estate to be transferred into their names.

Heirs who live far away

Part of the family lives elsewhere, and everyone’s documents have to be coordinated without them having to travel each time.

Bank accounts, vehicles and other assets

Besides the property there are bank accounts or a car, and each asset has its own procedure.

How we work

From the first call to the finished paperwork

  1. Step 1

    A first conversation

Request an appointment, tell us about the situation and bring the death certificate and, if there is one, the will.

  2. Step 2

Listing the assets and the heirs

We gather information on the assets and the details of every heir, and tell you which documents are still missing.

  3. Step 3

    Processing

We prepare and file the inheritance paperwork together with whatever taxes apply.

  4. Step 4

    Award and distribution

The assets are formally awarded and distributed among the heirs, and we hand you the complete set of documents.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most often

Where do I start when a relative dies?

Request an appointment and bring the death certificate and, if you have it, the will. From there we tell you what else is needed and in which order.

Do you take care of the whole process?

Yes. We manage the settlement of the inheritance from start to finish: from the death certificate to the award and distribution of the assets.

Are there deadlines for settling an inheritance?

Yes: the taxes linked to an inheritance have a legal deadline that runs from the date of death. That is why it is worth getting in touch early; we tell you which one applies to your case.

We do not know whether there is a will. What should we do?

That is one of the first things we check when we start. Bring us whatever you have and we will go through it together.

Do all the heirs have to come in?

Not necessarily for the first appointment. We will, however, need everyone’s details and, when the time comes, their agreement to the distribution.

The estate includes a car. Do you handle that too?

Yes. The change of vehicle ownership is handled by our vehicle and traffic area, in coordination with the rest of the inheritance.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, we work by appointment. You can request one by phone, by email or from the contact page of this website, so that we can give your case the time it needs.

Which languages do you work in?

We work in Spanish and Catalan: you can write to us, call us or visit the office in whichever of the two you prefer. This English version of the website is provided for information.

Is this your case? Let’s talk.
